The talented junior striker scored the game-winning goal in fifth-seeded Bayside’s 3-2 overtime PSAL Class A quarterfinal victory over No. 4 Tottenville Tuesday afternoon at Tilden High School in Brooklyn. In the ninth minute of extra time, she received a throw in from junior midfielder Anca Dogarescu at the left flank, turned to her right and scored, rifling a shot just under the crossbar.
“That’s why she is who she is – she shines in the right moment,” Bayside Coach Joe Corrado said.
“I was just thinking as soon as I get the chance, just take it,” she said. “It’s one goal and this is it. I opened up some space for myself and took the shot.”
Psomopoulos, who led Queens A-V in scoring with 18 regular season goals, finishing fifth in the city, and has added four postseason tallies, had led the Commodores since her arrival as a freshman. She guided them to their first-ever finals appearance last June, a 2-0 defeat to McKee/Staten Island Tech, whom Bayside will see in the semifinals this week, and three consecutive undefeated regular seasons in league play.
