In celebration of the birthday of jazz legend Louis Armstrong, there will be a free Jazzmobile concert at the Louis Armstrong House Museum on Tuesday, July 8.
A trailer that transforms into a stage, the Jazzmobile makes annual stops at the house, which is located in Corona and is the actual home where Armstrong lived for many years.
Presented by the Louis Armstrong House Museum, the concert will feature Ray Vega and his Latin jazz quintet. Vega is a trumpet player, percussionist, composer, and arranger. He has received acclaim for “Squeeze, Squeeze,” which is his second CD.
There will also be special discount tours of the Louis Armstrong House during the concert. The cost will be $5 per person.
Armstrong and his wife Lucille moved into the Corona home in 1943 and lived there for the remainder of their lives. Now a National Historic Landmark that is administered by Queens College, the house still contains original furnishing and items belonging to Armstrong.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Louis Armstrong House Museum is located at 107th Street between 34th Avenue and 37th Avenue. For more information, visit www.louisarmstronghouse.org or call 718-478-8274.
