Assemblymember Audrey I. Pheffer has been contacted by the New York State Department of Correctional Services (DCS), requesting her assistance with their Department’s Correction Officer recruiting effort.
A new examination will be held on October 18. The filing deadline for the exam is September 2, and there is a $30 filing fee which must accompany your application.
Pheffer has a number of applications and fact sheets that describe the salary and benefits to employees serving in Correction Officer positions. The trainee starting salary begins at $34,329 per year. After six months the salary increases to $36,111. After successful completion of the one-year Correction Officer traineeship, the salary increases to $41,348 per year.
At the time of appointment, candidates must be at least 21 years old, be in good physical and mental health, possess a high school diploma or GED and be a U.S. citizen. Convicted felons are automatically disqualified.
