Starting this month, some Queens coffee drinkers may have to get their Starbucks fix somewhere else.

Two western Queens locations, one at 89-89 Union Tnpk. and the other at 80-00 Cooper Ave. in the Shops at Atlas Park, are set to close sometime between July and the first half of 2009.

Starbucks would not provide specific closure dates for the two outlets, but Mike Lenda, the Starbucks Northeast Atlantic Division Group marketing manager, said “it depends upon a number of factors and we will not be able to confirm an exact date.”

The pending shutdowns, listed on Starbucks' Web site last Thursday, were the result of “extensive reviews” conducted by the company since January which evaluated “operating efficiency, customer satisfaction and the long term value” of each store, according to Lenda.

The closings are part of the Seattle-based coffee chain's decision to shut the doors of 600 Starbucks nationwide. No other Queens locations were listed.

Starbucks said the list is constantly being updated and should be referred to for additional closures and shutdown dates.
