With summer in full swing, children eager for their “What I did this summer” experiences are going to all kinds of summer camps, but few offer the enriching memories the Lawrence Woodmere Academy Summer Day Program does.
The camp offers flexible four-, six- and eight-week programs to children ranging in age from three to 16. There are three unique programs designed to divide the campers into specific age groups: nursery, for children from ages three to five; an upper division for kids six to 12; and a Counselor-in-Training program for enrolled campers from ages 13 to 16.
The campers enjoy heated swimming pools (one exclusively for younger children) as well as tennis courts and large outdoor areas where they participate in various sports such as baseball, football, soccer and volleyball.
Along with being able to play these sports recreationally, the Lawrence Woodmere Academy also hosts athletic clinics in baseball, fencing, hockey, football, soccer and tennis.
These clinics are conducted by both professional and guest athletes. Former New York Jet safety Kenny Schroy and former U.S. Open, Wimbledon and French Open doubles champion Gene Mayer are just two of many who will teach the youngsters through in-depth individualized instruction, not only helping them improve athletically, but also providing a helpful role model for the children.
Apart from the extensive activities, such as computer classes, arts and crafts, dance, drama, and more, there are various off-campus excursions, such as trips to go bowling, ice-skating and mini-golfing.
Door-to-door transportation is available, as the camp offers mini-van services that will pick up and drop off campers.
Nutritious lunches and snacks are also provided during the day in the summer program, and kosher meals are available upon request.
Accommodating enrollment schedules are available, including three-day-a-week and three-quarter day enrollment for nursery students. The camp runs through August 21.
The Lawrence Woodmere Academy is located at 336 Woodmere Boulevard, Woodmere, NY 11598. For enrollment forms and additional information, visit www.lawrencewoodmere.org or call 516-374-5559.
