This summer Tara Moore, 19, followed her love for journalism all the way to our nation’s capital.
She recently completed an internship at the National Consumers League (NCL), the nation’s oldest consumer organization for which she was selected from a pool of highly-qualified candidates from around the world.
The South Ozone Park resident, who studies magazine journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, secured her internship through the Institute on Political Journalism (IPJ), a summer program that prepares undergrads for the fields of journalism and public relations.
Moore explained that as part of her internship, she blogged for the NCL, writing pieces on topics such as airline fee prices.
As an IPJ participant, Moore also took classes at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
“My summer was more than I expected. The classes introduced me to a new level of learning,” Moore said. “It was intense and challenging but anything I do after this will be a breeze,” she added.
IPJ is sponsored by the Fund for American Studies, an educational nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. which offers internship programs for college students.
