Flushing BID turns five

The Flushing Business Improvement District (BID) celebrated its fifth anniversary at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel at 135-20 39th Avenue on Thursday, September 4.
“I feel very proud that it’s been five years. It felt like it was yesterday,” said Mabel Law, executive director of the Flushing BID. “It was so nostalgic for many of us.”
Law said one of the BID’s biggest accomplishments over the years was implementing a capital project of $6 million provided by the federal and city governments. The money was used for beautifying the district with things like new benches, lampposts and sidewalks, Law explained.
The BID, which represents 1,400 businesses, also helps clean the streets of Downtown Flushing and put up holiday lighting, among other things.
The Flushing BID is the first one that Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed into existence.
