Local dentist honored by peers

The Corbin Family Dental Arts is proud to announce that Bruce W. Corbin, D.M.D, F.A.G.D. achieved an Academy of General Dentistry Fellowship, an honor bestowed upon those dentists recognized by other general dentists as a leader and an example to other dentists of the importance of quality continuing dental education to patient care.
Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Fellowship was created more than 50 years ago to honor those who clearly recognize and embrace the professional obligation to remain current in their knowledge and skills in order to insure delivery of the highest quality oral healthcare and to better serve patients.
Fellowship in the AGD has evolved today into the most recognizable designation within the dental profession of commitment to continuing education, and it serves as a model by which to measure professional excellence. To earn this award, a dentist must earn a minimum of 500 approved continuing dental education credits and pass a comprehensive 400-question examination. A dentist must also be an Academy of General Dentistry member for five continuous years.
While attaining Fellowship is a challenge, it allows dentists to remain current with what is new in dentistry, and to incorporate the latest techniques into their practices. Only 7 percent of the members of the AGD have been honored as Fellows.
As dental science and clinical knowledge advance, it is a Fellow’s duty and responsibility to stay current. When well-founded research and clinical experience enable dentists to deliver better care, it is a Fellow’s obligation to incorporate these concepts into practice.
They must be active and voice their opinions and desires to continuing education providers, encouraging them to offer courses that are relevant to their needs and those of fellow dentists. They must be willing to serve and be willing to lead. Whether it is in the form of study clubs; local society meetings; dental school after-curriculum programs; constituent or regional Master track programs; or other affiliated healthcare educational opportunities, AGD Fellows have a role to play.
Fellowship should not be viewed as an endpoint in professional development but rather the driving force that propels them to the next level, becoming a Master in the AGD.
The Dentists and Staff at The Corbin Family Dental Arts are proud of Dr. Bruce’s accomplishments and skills and congratulate him for the recognition by his peers.
