Astoria woman wins a million

Astoria resident Linda Corrigan, 61, collected her $1,000,000 Lottery prize on Tuesday, October 28, which she won with a scratch-off ticket. “Something told me to stop at the store on my way home from work and buy a Lottery ticket,” said Corrigan, who works as a legal secretary, about the Extravaganza ticket she purchased.
“I always played the Lottery for that one-in-a-million chance to win $1,000,000. I’ve accomplished my goal and now I’m on Cloud Nine,” Corrigan explained.
The Astoria resident will receive her $1,000,000 prize in annual installments of $50,000 of gross income for the next 20 years. Her annual net check will total $34,075 after required tax withholdings.
A mother of one, Corrigan bought her winning ticket at Scott’s Food on West 48th Street in Manhattan on October 21. She claimed her prize in Manhattan two days later.
Corrigan said her immediate plans include giving back to the community and taking a much needed vacation.
Corrigan is one of the 15 Extravaganza scratch-off ticket winners in Queens for 2008 and she’s been the third such winner from Astoria since July, according to the New York Lottery.
