The kids from Saint Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside got a real treat recently, when New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini provided 31 tickets to the game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, September 28.
The kids, their families and staffers got the royal treatment - VIP passes to watch the Jets pre-game warm-up on the field. A lucky pair of brothers even got a romp through the locker room, where they received high-fives from players, who autographed their souvenir helmets and took pictures with them.
The team’s generosity comes as no surprise since they’ve created a strong bond with the kids of Saint Mary’s after Coach Mangini’s first visit to the hospital earlier this year, with draft picks Dustin Keller and Erik Ainge.
The players spent time with kids, creating special memories as they tossed around a football, gave out autographed hats and shared laughter and conversation with children and their families, and the team has been working with Saint Mary’s ever since.
Shown here before the big game, Coach Mangini puts an arm around 13-year-old Marcus Harold, as his wife Julie stands between brother Ricky Linson, 18, and their mom, Iramae (seated, center.)
The Jets had a romp that day as well, beating the Cardinals, 56-35.
