Census job opportunities

Nigel Manuel, U.S. Census Bureau manager for Queens, is urging residents to jump on temporary job opportunities for the upcoming 2010 Census.
Manuel said over one million questionnaires will be sent in Queens alone, the largest and most diverse of the Census waves. Having a correct headcount of residents, including the immigrant population, is important when distributing the 300 billion federal dollars, Manuel said, and Queens has been under-counted in the past.
Those interested in participating as employees should contact the Census Bureau at 866-861-2010 or on the web at www.census.gov. Manuel said his office will hire 100 employees for the Queens census by March of this year.
