Drug suspect shot by cop

A narcotics investigation in Flushing on Saturday, January 24 resulted in two arrests, one of which came after a man fled police and was shot in the elbow by an officer.
At around 5:30 p.m., police, who were conducting an investigation in response to a narcotics complaint at 137-40 45th Avenue, conducted a car stop of a 2008 Chevy Cobalt occupied by a 27-year-old male and an 18-year-old male. According to a police report, the 27-year-old fled on foot and was pursued to the corner of Colden Street and Elder Avenue, at which point an officer fired a shot, striking the suspect in the right elbow.
Published reports identified the suspect who was shot as Edgar Peralta and described him as a “drug dealer” who was carrying 17 bags of cocaine and “smoking a joint” at the time of the incident. According to the reports, Peralta had walked from the 45th Avenue building to his car when officers approached him.
Peralta was transported to New York Hospital Queens where he was listed in stable condition. According to the published reports, investigators were unsure if he was carrying a weapon at the time of his shooting, but they noted that he was charged with three counts of possessing and selling drugs. A police report noted the younger suspect was also arrested.
