For years, homeowners in the Auburndale area have been clamoring for the city to revisit the zoning in their neighborhood - watching as the Department of City Planning (DCP) focused on other parts of the borough.
Their turn has come.
On Thursday, January 29 at 7 p.m. Community Board 7 (CB 7) and Community Board 11 (CB11) will hold a joint public hearing concerning the application by the Department of City Planning (DCP) to rezone 257 blocks of North Flushing.
Holy Cross High School’s auditorium was selected to host the meeting, which is expected to draw a large audience. The school is located at 26-20 Francis Lewis Boulevard. Enter at the main entrance on 170 Street, according to a statement from CB11.
The rezoning area is generally bounded by Union Street to the west, the Clearview Expressway and Francis Lewis Boulevard to the east; 25th Avenue to the north and Northern Boulevard and Depot Road to the south.
The purpose of the rezoning is to “provide lower density and contextual zoning changes to more closely reflect the predominantly low scale, one and two family residential character of the neighborhood and ensure that future development is more consistent with the existing housing,” according to a statement from CB11.
There is also a City Wide Zoning Text Amendment proposed to establish a new residential zoning district, R1-2A, which would apply a refinement of the revisions embodied in the R2A zoning to 60-foot-wide lots.
The full application was scheduled to be available for viewing after January 20 on the DCP website: www.nyc.gov/planning.
A map of the proposed change for the 50 in CB11 is available now at their website, www.nyc.gov/queenscb11.
