Queens Assemblyman Rory Lancman was honored for his support of the American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA), a life-saving charity that benefits Israel’s volunteer ambulance service and the residents of southern Israel.
“Being recognized by the American Friends of Magen David Adom is very humbling to me,” Lancman said.
Last winter, Lancman visited Israel and the Gaza region and witnessed firsthand the dangerous conditions that the southern Israeli people live under on a daily basis.
“We saw the hospitals where people from the attacks were taken,” he said. “We saw children who took naps in bunkers.”
Just weeks after Lancman visited the region, more intense fighting between the Israelis and Palestinians began along the Gaza Strip. Lancman, who quickly urged Americans to support Israel in its war on Hamas when the conflict erupted two weeks ago, Lancman brought media attention to AFMDA. Because of the exposure, many individuals made donations to support peace in Israel. These donations enabled Magen David Adom, the International Red Cross Israeli affiliate, to train medics and purchase ambulances and medical equipment.
