The Queens Courier’s decision in December 2007 to re-launch its web site with original video content and maximized user interaction has paid off – again.
Queenscourier.com swept the New York Press Association’s (NYPA) online awards categories – for the second year in a row – at the trade organization’s spring convention in Saratoga Springs, NY during the weekend of April 3-4.
Competing against the largest community weeklies in the state, The Courier again took away first prize for “Best Newspaper Website” with NYPA judges calling Queenscourier.com the “most complete site” and one that reflects the nature of the print product.
Judges also awarded the web site “Best Use of Multimedia,” acknowledging the effectiveness of the video and multimedia sign posts included within print articles to alert readers to exclusively online content. Judges noted the newspaper’s “consistent references” to Queenscourier.com are a useful tool for encouraging readers of The Courier’s print products to journey online.
And, for the first time, Queenscourier.com won second place in the “Best Citizen Involvement” category. From the web site’s photo galleries that welcome user-submitted content; to the blogs, on topics ranging from high school sports to politics that encourage users to post their opinions and feedback; to award-winning print content that uniformly encourages comments and discussion; to the cross promotions between print and online content, the NYPA heralded Queenscourier.com as “a highly interactive web site” that compliments the print newspaper.
As always, Queenscourier.com hopes to get even better. The Courier welcomes people within and outside of the Queens community to join us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
We encourage print readers and web users to access our vast archive of original multimedia and video content. Additionally, users can send comments and suggestions to editorial@queenscourier.com.
