The American Heart Association has named Deon Levingston, Vice President and General Manager of ICBC Broadcast Holdings’ New York City stations, WBLS and WLIB; and Dorothy Lewandowski, Queens Park Commissioner, as two honorees for the 2nd Annual Go Red Luncheon in Queens, being held on Thursday, June 4 at Russo’s on the Bay.
Levingston has worked in broadcast for more than 18 years. He is very active in his community, serving on several boards, charities and non-profit organizations, including Project Enterprise, United Negro College Fund and the NY Urban League, while also serving on the Board of Directors for the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and New York State Broadcasters.
Since Levingston joined WBLS/WLIB, the station won the 2005 and 2008 NAB Marconi Award for Urban Station of the Year and was named Radio & Records Urban AC Major Market Station of the Year in 2008. Currently, WBLS/WLIB is the flagship station for the nationally syndicated “Steve Harvey Morning Show” and the nationally syndicated “Wendy Williams Experience.”
Lewandowski has been involved with Parks and Recreation since 1979 and through her hard work and diligence, has held numerous positions. In February 2002, she was appointed Bronx Borough Commissioner and in October 2004, Lewandowski was appointed the Queens Borough Commissioner to oversee the borough’s 7,326 acres of parkland.
Under her guidance, Queens parks offer an abundance of fun and creative recreational activities that promote physical fitness, including a fitness van that travels throughout the borough providing healthy activities for underserved communities; “Step Out,” a walking program targeting adults; and “Learn to Ride,” a program that teaches children how to ride a bicycle, all of which are free to the public.
In 2007, Lewandowski embarked on a new exciting initiative to create a citywide Water Trail for non–motorized watercraft.
This year’s Luncheon will be emceed by Odalys Molina, a reporter for Telemundo 47. The luncheon program will include two heart-healthy workshops, an educational panel discussion “Effective Ways to Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease,” led by top medical and health professionals from the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System and “Body & Soul,” nourishment for a heart-healthy lifestyle. Following the workshops, Queen’s best networking, auction and raffle will begin. The luncheon program will also include a Keynote by Ann Liguori, golf and tennis correspondent for WFAN Radio.
