KEW GARDENS — A 24−year−old mother was sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday for suffocating her 4−month−old son more than two years ago, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Yoneli Rodriguez pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this month for killing her son, Darnel Angel Rodriguez, in the early morning hours of March 30, 2007, according to the DA. Yoneli, 22 at the time, was residing in a temporary homeless shelter at the Lincoln Motor Inn at 90−35 Van Wyck Expwy. in Jamaica when she placed a pillow over her son’s face, Brown said.
Despite being across the street from Jamaica Hospital, Yoneli took the unconscious baby to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the DA said.
