Although Dr. Jun Hua He has been practicing acupuncture in America for the last 11 years, she said new patients who have come to her are overly cautious about going through with the procedure.
“In China, everyone knows about acupuncture. Here, not too many people know and I have to explain everything to them,” she said.
He, who opened up a new clinic on the second floor of 214-18 41st Ave. in Bayside, said she tells all patients acupuncture is not only safe, but it also helps them with their ailments for a long time. The state licensed acupuncturist said she takes great care in her work because she wants her patients to heal quickly and safely.
When patients come in for acupuncture procedures, He, who earned a medical degree in internal medicine in China, administers a quick checkup and examines their blood pressure and pulse before taking them to the procedure room.
There, she inserts sterile needles at the location of the patient’s pain, placing them at specific areas that affect the body’s pressure points. He said she has been conducting the procedure for so long she has honed it to the point where the patient feels little discomfort.
“There is a little pinch,” He said when she described the process. “It really doesn’t hurt.”
In 1998, He moved to north Flushing and became licensed in New York state in acupuncture. She had been working out of an office in Brooklyn for years, but decided to open a second clinic in Bayside not only because it was closer to home, but because of the friendly atmosphere of the neighborhood.
“It’s a very good area. I want to service this area,” she said.
