Tolls on nine Metropolitan Transit Authority bridges and tunnels will be raised 10 percent on July 12, for all vehicles, according to the MTA.
The new tolls will be effective starting at 3 a.m. and cars face an average 50 cent increase for cash lanes and a 40 cent increase for those using E-ZPass tags issued by NY Customer Service Center.
Truck drivers who wait on the cash line face an average increase of $1.17 and E-ZPass holders will take a hit of 88 cents.
A NY Customer Service Center issued tag can be applied for at www.ezpassny.com, regardless of residency. It is the only tag where listed E-ZPass prices will apply. All other E-ZPass tags will be charged the cash rate when crossing the spans; the same applies to trucks.
The current toll prices have been in effect since March 16, 2008.
The Marine Parkway and Cross Bay Bridges, which connects the Rockaways to the rest of the city, will now cost $2.75 to cross each way with cash, and $1.71 with E-ZPass. Rockaway and Broad Channel residents are eligible for discounts.
Drivers taking the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge, RFK Bridges, Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and/or Queens Midtown Tunnel will now pay $5.50 each way, while E-ZPass holders pay $4.57 each way. Also on these routes, two-axle trucks paying cash will have to cough up $11 and $8.25 with E-ZPass.
The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will charge $11 for cash paying cars and $9.14 for E-ZPass holders going westbound. Trucks will pay $22 for cash and $16.50 for E-ZPass. Staten Island residents are eligible for discounts on this bridge.
To cross the Henry Hudson Bridge, cars will soon need to pay $3 cash or $2.09 using E-ZPass.
The increases are part of the state-approved financing deal passed by the MTA in May to avoid the “doomsday” plan that would cut services drastically and lay off workers. Subway and bus fare increases took affect on June 28; commuter railroad fares rose on June 17.
