With amazing goals scored from midfield, its no wonder that Johann Moisés Renderos, a defender for the Big Apple Youth Soccer League’s U-10 team from Flushing, recently won a scholarship to attend the Basic Force Training camp of the powerful Club America of Mexico, where he will be evaluated in their summer soccer school.
This special invitation arrived from José Enrique Vaca, who used to play professionally for the Aguilas in Mexico and now directs their soccer school. He was recently in New York and fell in love with the talent and personality that Johann showed on the field.
The speed to get to each ball, his nicely timed sweeps and the vision to direct his defense were, among others, the skills that “Pepe” Vaca saw in Johann, who at nine years old leads the BAYSL U-10 team, a two-time Champion of the Cosmopolitan league which won the Alianza Verizon Cup this past June.
In this past tournament, the Big Apple team, made up of selected kids of Latino origin, defeated Manhattan Downtown United 5-4 in the final by penalty kicks. The third goal in this dramatic game was scored by Johann Renderos, who is Salvadorian.
Opening Doors
This opportunity with which Johann is presented is great news for New York youth soccer, because it will be the first time that a kid from our community has been sponsored by a world-renowned soccer club like Club America of Mexico.
“It’s going to be a great experience for Johann, the most important thing is that he has fun getting to know another culture and other customs, and that he sees that in other countries, there are also kids who are just as passionate about soccer as he is,” said coach Ruben Renderos, Johann’s father, who observed the work of the Basic Force of the Aguilas last year.
For now, Johann still trains with his teammates from Big Apple. He has been watching the Mexican team which he will train with for three weeks on television and on video. His favorite players are goalies Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa and Salvador Cabañas.
