Supporting free youth sports in Baisley Pond Park

Aviation Development Council (ADC), a bridge organization between the region’s aviation industry and the communities it serves, announced its partnership with Councilmember Thomas White in support of City Parks Foundation’s 2009 CityParks Tennis & Golf, presented by Chase, in Baisley Pond Park with a check presentation recently.
“Aviation Development Council has formulated a community outreach program which is focused on youth wellness, youth leadership development, and youth education,”?said Bill Huisman, Executive Director of the ADC. “We appreciate Councilmember White’s concern for the youth of his community and the support we received from the Port Authority and our airline board members. We are pleased to be helping City Parks Foundation with these exciting programs for young people in the Baisley Park area.”
The Foundation’s free youth golf and tennis instruction programs provide a fun way for children throughout New York City to learn golf and tennis basics. CityParks Golf & CityParks Tennis provides free coaching and equipment to boys and girls, ages five to 16. CityParks Golf is held twice a week, for two four-week sessions, through August 20.
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of City Parks Foundation this year, we are proud to continue to offer free sports programming in Baisley Pond Park,” said David Rivel, Executive Director, City Parks Foundation. “Our goal is to spark an interest in tennis, golf, and track & field among city kids at an early age, not only to promote fitness and well-being, but to help engage communities and help establish neighborhood parks as vital community resources.”
City Parks Foundation’s innovative programs consist of two golf or tennis lessons each week, introducing young players to the games through specialized instruction and equipment. The summer program includes warm-up stretches, life skills activities, and helpful golf and tennis drills. Fun games and contests at the end of each session allow participants to apply the skills they have just learned. All of CPF’s free sports programs teach children important life skills – such as sportsmanship, self-confidence, patience, respect, and team work.
