Electronics stolen from Jax Hts home: Boro DA

JACKSON HEIGHTS — A 20-year-old East Elmhurst man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a Jackson Heights apartment and stole a pair of sneakers and several electronic items, the Queens district attorney said.

Julio Villarreal, of 90-01 32nd Ave. in East Elmhurst, was arraigned Nov. 13 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Stephanie Zaro on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and petit larceny, Queens DA Richard Brown said. The defendant, who will return to court Nov. 30, was held on $20,000 bail, the DA said.

According to the criminal complaint, the owner of a Jackson Heights apartment on 81st Street came home Oct. 1 to find the child safety bars on his window had been torn off and that the multiple liquor bottles he had on his window ledge had been smashed, the DA said.

In addition, the apartment owner told police a pair of his sneakers, an iPod, his Sony PSP and $100 had been stolen, Brown said. Video surveillance of the apartment allegedly showed Villarreal throwing rocks at a side window of the apartment as well as banging on its air conditioner and window, he said.

The video also is alleged to have shown the defendant throwing the window bars to the ground and walking away from the location with a pair of sneakers, the DA said.
