About 100 civic-minded benefactors celebrated with the Flushing YMCA at its 9th Annual Community Service Awards Dinner recently. All proceeds from the event, at Kum Gang San Restaurant, 138-28 Northern Boulevard in Flushing on Thursday, November 12., support the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign, to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged local youth.
Principal Cindy Diaz-Burgos of J.H.S. 189, the Daniel Carter Beard School in Flushing, received the YMCA Community Service award for her professional and personal contributions to the community.
The Distinguished Public Leadership Award was presented to Roger Clark, a reporter for NY1 cable news channel. Clark later entertained the crowd when he briefly sat in for the drummer and later with a demonstration of his break dancing skills.
