With the recent rash of tire thefts in New and Old Howard Beach, officers of the 106th Precinct are offering tips on how to keep your vehicle in one piece.
Crime Prevention Officer Paul Ciccarello said that the spate began in late January. The thieves are most likely targeting rims, he noted, and simply steal the whole tire.
In order to combat this, Ciccarello suggests purchasing wheel locks at any auto parts store or car dealer. Also, he said to park in a well-lit area and to take advantage of the precinct’s free VIN etching program.
“It’s good for [protecting] glass and you can even get up to 10 percent off your insurance, if you carry full insurance,” said Ciccarello.
