A cab driver and would-be car thief was reportedly fatally punched and put in a headlock by the vehicle’s owner when he tried to steal the car.
On Saturday, February 27, police responded to a 9-1-1 call of a dispute on Mangin Avenue. Upon arrival it was determined that a 28-year-old former Marine, identified in published reports as Daillard Paris, caught Yaosse Agbokou, 50, attempting to drive away in his 2005 Nissan Altima. Paris allegedly pulled Agbokou from behind the wheel, punched him and placed him in a headlock.
While police were placing Agbokou under arrest, he became disoriented and went unconscious. EMS was requested and took Agbokou to Queens General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, and the district attorney is investigating the case.
