Charge teacher’s aide in student abuse
A paraprofessional with the Department of Education (DOE) for four years has been suspended without pay, after he was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a student.
Mangal Mohan, 56, was caught in an elevator at Ozone Park’s High School for Construction Trades, Engineering & Architecture with the 20-year-old, who is mentally handicapped, on Wednesday, May 12.
“She said he touched her inappropriately,” said DOE spokesperson Margie Feinberg.
Papers obtained from the district attorney’s office state that Mohan “placed his hand inside of her pants, under her underwear . . . and raised her shirt.”
A school safety agent told the DA that “the elevator doors opened and she observed the complainant leaning against a wall of the elevator, pulling at her shirt and pants. She also saw “the defendant, facing the complainant, standing close to the complainant, pressing his body against hers.”
That same agent also said that, “some time ago, the defendant asked her if there were cameras inside of the elevators.”
Feinberg said Mohan has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
