Charity car wash for autistic children

Get ready to get sudsy for a cause.

On Sunday, July 11 (July 18 rain date), New York Families for Autistic Children (NYFAC) is having its annual charity car wash and car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Get your car washed, help wash cars, participate in the car show, or just sit back and relax while having a good time.

“We run this event every year to help raise money for NYFAC, which is an organization devoted to helping those children, young adults, and adults who are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or any other developmental disability,” said Andrew Baumann, President/CEO and co-founder of NYFAC. “Over the years it has grown into a full day, with many, many volunteers from all over Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island coming to help wash cars.”

“Last year we added a car show featuring classic cars, luxury cars and sports cars and use the Lindenwood Shopping Center as our host location – thanks to the property owners of the shopping center,” continued Baumann.

Since its inception in 1998, NYFAC, has developed and instituted a wide variety of programs and services. NYFAC is recognized as a leader world-wide in the development of training materials for professionals working with children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Their motto and mission is simple – “Helping Parents …Help their Children …One family at a time.”

The car wash will take place at 82-10 153rd Avenue, Howard Beach (by Queens County Savings Bank); and the car show by the Lindenwood Shopping Center.

You can even help judge the cars — for a small donation, you can cast your vote for best in three categories.

If you would like to volunteer for the event, call NYFAC at 718-641-3441, Ext. 100 or 101.

If you would like to register your car for the car show, you can do so the morning of the event, beginning at 8 a.m.
