Courting customers appetites at the Open

It’s safe to say that one can expect hundreds of serves every year at the U.S. Open – but what might not be expected is the incredible food service that the world of tennis has in store for its visitors.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Levy Restaurants, the official restaurateurs of the U.S. Open, announced a number of new additions to the culinary offerings for the Open, which runs from August 30 to September 12.

“The U.S. Open is one of the premier sports and entertainment attractions on the planet, both in the on-court product and in the experience offered to patrons throughout the grounds,” said Danny Zausner, managing director of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. “The U.S. Open features culinary offerings that have transcended sports and with the additions in 2010, including an extraordinary lineup of acclaimed chefs, this year’s Open will provide both tennis fans and casual visitors alike an experience unparalleled by any other sporting event in the world.”

Star-caliber performances will not be limited to the courts, as tennis fans and foodies alike will be blown away by the Open’s kitchen aces. The newest addition this year is the South Plaza Master Chef Café, featuring signature items created by some of the most esteemed chefs in the country.

U.S. Open executive chef Michael Lockard worked with Top Chef Tony Mantuano, who created the Wine Bar Food experience at the Open, to recruit several Top Chef Masters co-stars to participate at the South Plaza Master Chef Cafe. Chefs include Mantuano, Susan Feniger, Carmen Gonzalez, Rick Moonen and Jonathan Waxman.

Additionally, Food Network star Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto has been tapped to serve his signature sushi in the Club Level restaurant ACES, the player’s lounge and the 90 luxury suites.

The U.S. Open’s Food Village will feature an array of culinary delights for everyone from the carnivorous meat eater to the health conscious vegetarian. There will also be plenty of organic options, as well as more traditional concession stand fare.

Other restaurants courting customers at the U.S. Open include Champions Bar & Grill, Mojito Restaurant and Bar and Patio Café.
