From the Footlights: Roy Haynes

Next week we’ll have Part Two of Raphael Sugarman’s fall preview, encompassing highlights from some of Manhattan’s top jazz and classical music venues, but for now here’s a timely taste:

Attending the Roy Haynes concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Saturday, Sept. 25, is not only an opportunity to see one of the jazz’s greatest drummers, but also to be in the presence of a artist who played with such immortals as Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughan and John Coltrane. The single-night event will feature Haynes playing with both his own Fountain of Youth Band, as well as an ensemble including trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. In JALC’s Rose Theater, Broadway and 60th Street, at 8 p.m.
