NY Islanders host charity car show

It’ll be pistons and pucks – all for a good cause.

On Saturday, October 2, the New York Islanders will team up with the All American Car Club to host the 1st Annual NYI Classic Car Show at the Nassau Coliseum to benefit Life’s WORC, a private, not-for-profit organization providing comprehensive support for individuals with developmental disabilities.

“There is a big demand for car shows on Long Island,” said Rose Barre, director of group sales for the Islanders. “We were fortunate enough to team up with Life’s WORC and the All American Car Club.”

Barre explained that the team does community outreach and brings different events to the Coliseum. In fact, each of the 42 home games is dedicated to a charity.

They have done work to help the American Red Cross, Josephine Foundation, and, this year, a 5K will benefit the Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information.

The Islanders have a great relationship with Life’s WORC, with 36 homes in Nassau, Queens and Suffolk Counties, serving 1,200 individuals and their families each year through home and day programs and a variety of other services.

“Each of the Life’s WORC houses goes to Islanders games throughout the year,” Barre explained.

The Classic Car Show will be held at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All registrants for the show will receive a complimentary ticket to the Islanders pre-season game against the New Jersey Devils that evening at 7 p.m. The fee for the Car Show and complimentary Islanders game is $20 with $5 from each ticket going towards Life’s WORC.

All cars are eligible to enter the show. Classic car registration at the gate is $35 beginning at 8 a.m. Pre-1990 cars will be judged based on peers’ choice with winners taking home trophies.
