The Steve Lavin Era continues to lavish the St. John’s basketball program with all of the attention deserving of a true Big East team.
The Conference released the Red Storm’s finalized schedule, complete with game times and television broadcast information. A total of 24 of the Johnnies’ regular season matchups will be televised, with 11 of those games being nationally televised. Most notably among the national games will be their matchups against Duke and UCLA on CBS in late January and early February, respectively.
Additionally, nine games will be shown on the various ESPN networks and the remaining 13 will be televised on New York’s regional sports networks (SNY, MSG, MSG Plus).
Before the season gets started, fans are invited to the 2010 Red Storm Tip-Off, season opening celebration, on Friday, October 15 at 7 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena. Admission is free, but space is limited and tickets will be available for pickup beginning at 2 p.m.
Lavin, along with head women’s coach Kim Barnes Arico will be on hand to address fans about the upcoming season. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be introduced and hold short scrimmages, while the men will display a dunk contest. More performances and surprises can be expected.
St. John’s season tips off on the road and on national television – the Johnnies will take on Saint Mary’s in California on November 16, as the second game of ESPN’s third annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, which features 12 live college basketball games in 24 consecutive hours on the network.
Madison Square Garden will play host to eight regular season games and seven will be played on campus at Carnesecca Arena.
The Red Storm play their first season under Coach Lavin with a 10-man senior class, including veterans D.J. Kennedy (15.1 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game), Dwight Hardy (10.5 ppg, .383 3-point field goal percentage) and Paris Horne (9.2 ppg).
