Remembering Steven Siller

It is so wonderful to see the thousands of people who run through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Ground Zero in the Tunnel to Towers Run. Those runners, including many firefighters and other emergency personnel, were remembering Firefighter Steven Siller, who ran through the tunnel that fateful September 11 morning with 75 pounds of gear strapped to him to reach the burning Twin Towers.

While everybody else was fleeing the buildings, Siller and his fellow firefighters were running into the buildings to save whomever they could. Our firefighters are truly New York’s bravest, and every citizen of this city owes a debt of gratitude to them.

Let us never forget Steven Siller or his 342 other brothers who perished.
