HB ‘stuffs the bus’ for charity

People in Howard Beach may have been wondering what a yellow school bus was doing out on a Saturday. It was not for a class outing, but for a very good cause.
On Saturday, November 6, the Rotary Club of Southwest Queens hosted its “Stuff the Bus for Charity” event to help replenish the supplies of the Our Lady of Grace Ministry of Care Services (OLG) food pantry in Howard Beach.
The bus, which was donated by the Logan Bus Company, was parked in the parking lot of Waldbaum’s on Cross Bay Boulevard. During the event, members of the Rotary Club encouraged patrons to donate non-perishable food, cash, and Waldbaum’s gift certificates.
Big-hearted shoppers literally “stuffed the bus” – and raised an additional $200 – all of which will now be donated to the food pantry.
“It was very successful,” said Frances O. Scarantino, president of the Rotary Club of Southwest Queens. “It was really fantastic. People are very generous and proved that they are there for their neighbors.”
The Rotary Club of Southwest Queens is a proud supporter of the OLG food pantry. In addition to providing a monthly cash donation, the Rotary Club held a successful Pancake Breakfast in April for the benefit of the OLG food pantry.
The OLG food pantry, which provides food to over 100 needy families in the Howard Beach area, reports that they are in particular need of tuna fish and gravy.
