Is your New Year’s Resolution to get in shape, become more confident and learn self-defense?
Learn Tae Kwon Do, Hap Kido or Mixed Martial Arts at Fierce Dragon Martial Arts Family Training Center in Whitestone. Started six years ago by Master Michael Kimmel and his wife Jessica, Fierce Dragon encourages family interaction with classes designed for the whole family.
“There aren’t a lot of activities parents can do with their kids, so we have specific classes parents can do with their kids. It creates a nice family environment,” said Jessica Kimmel.
Fierce Dagon offers classes for all ages and experience levels. They offer a free trial so you can see if Fierce Dragon is the right fit for you.
The Little Dragons program is geared to develop the motor skills of kids between the ages of three and five through drills and games. Classes concentrate on balance, focus, coordination, memory, control, discipline, teamwork and fitness. As they get older, children are taught the basic mechanics of kicking and punching, self-defense, sparring and form. They learn to focus their minds and bodies through martial arts.
“Martial arts is great for kids with special needs, too,” said Kimmel. “They’re not competing against other kids, and we work with each child individually.”
Teenagers can increase their self-confidence and self-discipline and gain independence by learning to be responsible for their training and promotion in the martial arts. They learn how to defend themselves, be confident, learn respect and how to properly deal with anger and stress.
The adult program helps to relieve stress while getting in shape, build muscle, lose weight and gain confidence. There’s even a class for adults 50 and over who are just beginning martial arts, which includes a lot of breathing exercises and is not as intense as a normal class. Private lessons are also available.
Consider Fierce Dragon for your next party. Children play games while learning Tae Kwon Do basics for an hour, followed by pizza and cake. Fierce Dragon provides the invitations, paper goods, juice boxes, pizza and a token gift for each of the guests. The birthday child cuts the cake with Master Kimmel with a Korean sword.
