Shimmy and shake at Holiday Spectacular

Platinum Entertainment Group promotes concerts in conjunction with charities to help raise money. Currently, they are working with the American Heart Association and Family Enterprises. Platinum promotes between six and 10 performances each year throughout the tri-state area, with most concerts featuring oldies and Doo Wop groups.

Platinum President Steve Diamond has been in the promotion business for 30 years, working with the Shirelles, the Drifters, Richie Havens and a number of groups from the 70s and 80s. He and his two partners work to ensure audiences have a good time at their shows and truly get their money’s worth.

“Our performances are well-run, top notch and moderately priced, usually $35 to $45 and feature six to eight acts at a time. You will have a good time and get your money’s worth of entertainment,” said Diamond.

On January 15 at 7:30 p.m., Platinum Entertainment presents its 7th Annual Holiday Spectacular in the Kupferberg Center in Colden Auditorium at Queens College. The show stars Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners, Earl Lewis and the Channels, Larry Chance and the Earls, Willie Winfield and the Harptones, Cleveland Still the Dubs, Barbara Harris and the Toys, Sammy Sax and the MD’s, The 3rd Edition, as well as special guests, A Tribute to The Temptations – a great treat for any Temptations fans eager for some live music.

Tickets to this show would make a great holiday gift for parents and grandparents who still want to shimmy and shake to the classic Doo Wop hits of their youth. Past holiday shows have sold out, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to charity. Diamond says audiences rave about what a good time they have and come back year after year.

“It’s a very enjoyable night out,” said Diamond.

Doo Wop fans will remember a lot of the headlining acts. Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners are known for their hits, “This I Swear” and “Since I Don’t Have You.” Earl Lewis and The Channels are known for “The Closer You Are” and “Gloria.” Larry Chance and the Earls had hits in the 60s with “Remember Then,” “Life is But a Dream” and “I Believe.” The Harptones became influential to Doo Wop with “Sunday Kind of Love.”

Platinum Entertainment also has performances featuring 60s and disco groups coming up in 2011. For more information or to get tickets for the Holiday Spectacular, call 631-698-9696 or log on to www.friendentertainment.com. – Catherine M. Lozada
