Now the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) has decided that in order to “help the cash strapped city,” they will bill all parties involved in automobile accidents to which they respond. They will issue bills of up to $490 to the operator of each vehicle involved in the accident for services rendered.
What a mess! The FDNY claims that the insurance companies will figure out who is at fault and who will have to pay the ticket. We foresee a nightmare of late fee assessments and finger pointing with everyone having to pay their ticket and filing endless paper work to get refunds, which will no doubt be issued less a handling fee.
You can bet that if this stupid idea is allowed to go forward the auto insurance companies will just build the fees into everyone’s premiums.
What is next? Charging to put out fires? We pay taxes that pay their salaries and we should not have to pay anything additional for the FDNY to DO THEIR JOBS!
