Winter Weather Hits Borough

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory and special weather statement for Queens.

These warning are in effect until early afternoon. With the temperatures rising, there will be melting ice there will be falling ice from trees and power lines. The melting ice, continuing rainfall and poor drainage in areas may cause flooding.

Due to the more than half inch of ice that may be accumulated on streets and sidewalk the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is warning New Yorkers that must travel to exercise caution and to allow yourself extra time.

Trains on the LIRR are running on a weekend schedule, and while the MTA is running on a normal schedule, some weather related delays are expected.

The OEM is also is urging New Yorkers, building owners and managers to clear snow and ice from fire hydrants.

Alternate side parking rules have been suspended, but parking meters are in effect.

New York City Public Schools are open. Some private schools have been closed or have delayed openings.
