Mill Basin Day Camp provides fulfilling fun

At Mill Basin Day Camp, children will have the opportunity to engage in social and educational activities, meet new friends, make lifelong memories – and have fun while doing it all.

“Mill Basin Day Camp is dedicated to providing an exciting and fulfilling camp experience for both children and their parents by providing fun, recreational, social and educational activities,” said owner Jack Grosbard.

Since its opening 14 years ago, Mill Basin, located at 5945 Strickland Avenue in Brooklyn, has been serving the Brooklyn/Queens area with a staff consisting of professionals from various fields, including licensed New York City Department of Education teachers and deans in various elementary and high schools. The facility offers activities for children from pre-K through the ninth grade starting in September.

There are five individual camp programs, each having its own unique theme that best suits the needs of the different ages of campers. A typical day begins at 9 a.m. with the first activity followed by three periods then lunch. There are three more periods in the afternoon, a snack, then one final activity before dismissal. Activities are both indoor and outdoor.

Grosbard said safety is the highest priority at Mill Basin. Surveillance cameras are located throughout the building and each activity room is equipped with a phone directly connected to 9-1-1 and the main camp office via intercom. All staff members are also trained in First Aid and CPR.

“We equip our staff and facility with the latest and most modern safety and technological products in order to maintain constant contact and security both on and off the facility,” said Grosbard.

He added that working with parents is an integral part in maintaining a successful day camp, adding that families are always welcome to come tour the facility and to discuss the camp program.

“We realize and understand the pressures facing today’s working parents so we have designed a very flexible registration program,” Grosbard said. “Changing your summer schedule by adding, subtracting or changing weeks is never a problem at any time.”

The program is entirely refundable at any time prior to the first day of camp. There will be an open house for prospective camp-goers and parents on Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For registration information, fees, and other inquiries, visit millbasindaycamp.com or call 718-251-6200. – Alexa Mae Asperin
