Web site helps libraries in Cairo

Queens Library launched a new web site to help libraries in Cairo, Egypt that have been destroyed in the city’s recent civil turmoil. Two libraries were left in ruins in February after vandals stole and burnt its contents.

“We are issuing a rallying cry to libraries and library lovers globally to help

our Egyptian friends rebuild and reopen as soon as possible,” said Queens Library CEO Thomas W. Galante. “Together, the millions of people who support libraries worldwide can help reopen the doors to the information and opportunities that libraries provide to

the people of Cairo."

All proceeds donated will be provided to the Integrated Care Society, an organization that runs the system of public libraries in Cairo. The public can donate money at www.queenslibrary.org/ext/cairo/index.htm.
