City Parks Foundation began on May 2 their Spring 2011 season of Seniors Fitness programs that offer free tennis lessons, yoga instruction and fitness walking to all New Yorkers, 60 and over, in 14 parks across the boroughs; four in Queens.
All activities during the eight-week fitness program take place twice a week for one hour through June 24. All equipment and instruction is free of charge. Participants are encouraged to attend regularly to maximize their health benefits.
City Parks Seniors Fitness programs have served over 3,400 participants since it began in 2006. They aim to keep neighborhood parks a place for community activity and encourage New Yorkers at all ages to stay active and healthy. Even in moderate amounts exercise can help participants feel better, maintain or lose weight, reduce risk of heart disease and diabetes and minimize the symptoms of arthritis.
