Tour bus driver sets off wild chase

Fourteen suspensions and a revoked license did not stop a tour bus driver from setting off a wild chase through the streets of Queens.
Anthony Judd, of Jamaica, was arrested Sunday after attempting to flee from officers.
The chase began at about 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, May 8 when Bridge and Tunnel officer David Rivera flagged Judd’s bus down after seeing him go through a stop sign, according to the criminal complaint against Judd.
Instead of stopping the bus took off. Richard Cupo, a Bridge and Tunnel sergeant, saw the bus fleeing and attempted to stop the vehicle by standing in the road with his hand up, the complaint says. The officer had to leap out of the way to avoid the barreling bus.
The bus continued on driving over 25 miles per hour above the speed limit as he was being chased, the complaint says.
The bus was finally pulled over and Judd was arrested at Skillman Avenue and 49th Street.
Judd was charged with reckless endangerment, unlicensed operation of a vehicle and unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
If convicted of reckless endangerment, Judd faces up to seven years in prison.
Judd, who has had his license suspended 14 times, the last time being on December 14, 2009, does not currently have a valid license.
According to media reports, the president of Silhouette Tours & Travel said that the bus was stolen from the company’s lot by Judd, who they had occasionally rented buses to. Calls to their office were not returned.
Bail was set at $15,000. Judd is scheduled to appear in court again on May 23.
