Religion in Queens by the numbers

Catholics and Protestants have the most congregations, members and attendance, while Jewish and Muslim congregations continue to grow according to a 2009 survey of religion in Queens County released by Info Group.

On average, Evangelical Protestants have a total of 509 congregations within Queens County, with 93,589 members. There are roughly 210 attendees per service, with 92 percent of each congregation that are members.

Roman Catholics have a total of 121 congregations with 193,902 members. There are approximately 1,124 attendees per service and 89 percent of the congregations are members.

Jewish synagogues have a total of 22,652 members with 100 congregations. On average there are 111 attendees per service with 93 percent of the congregation that are members.

Islam holds eight congregations with 10,800 members. There are 307 attendees per congregation with 50 percent who are members.

This data was found utilizing a wide variety of historical and modern data from the U.S. Census, the American Community Survey, the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies (ASARB) and InfoGroup for every region across Queens County in 2009.
