Over the next two weeks, you can help save hundreds, if not thousands, of lives.
So mark your calendars for Saturday, June 4 and the following Saturday, June 11.
The International Society of SS. Cosma & Damiano will be hosting its third annual walk for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) on June 4 and The Howard Beach Relay for Life will be taking place the following week.
The JDRF walk, with special guests, costumed characters, face painting, free breakfast and lunch, tattoo and balloon artists, and even mascots Mr. Met and Sparky, will be held at the Ave Maria Catholic Academy schoolyard, located at 158-20 101st Street. The three-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m. with registration and hour earlier at 9 a.m. Last year’s walk collected over $150,000 for juvenile diabetes research.
The relay will be held at Frank M. Charles Memorial Park located at the corner of 85th Street and 165th Avenue. This year’s theme will be Hawaiian Luau, so come equipped with a lei and a grass skirt. This 24-hour walk will go on rain or shine. Activities include a scavenger hunt, a raffle, and a performance.
It’s not too late to sign up for one or both events.
