Kids around the borough began soaking up some fun as outdoor pools opened around the city yesterday.
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (with a break from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for cleaning) swimmers can head to any of the ten pool locations around Queens to stay cool in the hot summer sun.
Yesterday also marked the start of the city’s summer breakfast and lunch program. Children under 18 can enjoy free and healthy meals at a multitude of locations throughout the five boroughs. Breakfast is served from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m on weekdays. To find the nearest site dial 3-1-1 or visit this site.
The meals are served at schools, pools, parks, housing complexes and other locations around the city. The meals will run through September 2 and the pools will remain open through Labor Day.
The pool locations around Queens are:
• Astoria Park– 19th Street and 23rd Drive
• Fisher Pool- 99th Street and 32nd Avenue (Breakfast and Lunch is served)
• Flushing Meadows Corona Park Pool– Avery Avenue and 131 Street
• Fort Totten Park– 338 Story Avenue- (Lunch is served)
• Detective Keith L. Williams Park– 173rd Street and 106th Avenue – (Breakfast and Lunch is served)
• Marie Curie Park– 211th Street & 46th Avenue – (Lunch is served)
• Astoria Heights Playground– 45th Street & 30th Road
• Castlewood Playground– Little Neck Parkway & 72nd Avenue – (Lunch is served)
• Roy Wilkins Recreation Center– 177th Street and Baisley Boulevard
• Lawrence Virgilio Playground– 54th Street & 39th Road
