My husband is now a retired family practice doctor. During his many years in practice in Flushing, he aided patients by attempting to perform various procedures that he felt would help their suffering.
Today, it is a “different ball-game!”
This is the age of specialization. A GP or General Internist limits certain procedures, instead “sending patients out” to the many specialists who treat eye, ear, nose and throat, obstetrics and gynecologists who mostly deliver babies, and tend to womens’ special care, orthopedic specialists who treat fractured hips, etc. and the list goes on and on!
Perhaps, these methods in todays’ world are the correct way to go; however, my spouse was a happy physician, and still meets ex-patients in stores or restaurants, who come up to him, and enthusiastically thank him for his caring ways!
