Approximately 20,000 in Queens still without power

There were over 650 trees uprooted by Hurricane Irene’s wind and rain. Many downed trees and limbs took out power lines with them.
Over a hundred thousand New Yorkers lost power during the storm. Con Edison currently has 870 line workers, 400 tree trimmers and 200 damage assessors out working to restore power to these residents.
Approximately 20,000 residents in Queens are still without power. Con Ed estimates that power will be restored to all residents before midnight on Wednesday.
Con Ed will have a customer outreach van and will distribute dry ice to customers today from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at 134-40 Springfield Boulevard, between Merrick Boulevard and 135th Street by Pathmark and Home Depot.
