Nearly 200 firefighters battled what escalated to a four-alarm blaze on Monday, August 22.
FDNY officials said the call came in at 5:36 p.m. for a fire at 112-12 Jamaica Avenue, a one-story mixed-use building on an 80X100 lot.
Firefighters were on scene in four minutes; the inferno turned into a two-alarm at 5:44 p.m.; a three-alarm at 5:47 p.m.; and a four-alarm at 5:54 p.m.
The 39 units – 168 firefighters – had the blaze under control by 10:46 p.m. Eleven firefighters sustained minor injuries; all were taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment. One civilian was also injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
