Green resources fair in Long Island City

The Queens Library in Long Island City is aiding anyone who aspires to live a greener life.
Community residents will join numerous environmental groups at the library, located at 40-20 Broadway, on September 10 for the Western Queens Green Resources Fair. The event, which is funded by the Greening Western Queens Fund of North Star Fund, will include a lesson on the various green organizations and resources in the area that are at the public’s disposal. Guests will also learn how to live greener and save money while preserving the environment.
Games, giveaways and eco-crafts will be available, providing an enjoyable and educational day for all. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to plant peas and beans to bring home with them in containers and interact with Serema chickens and loads of worms.
The event will begin at 2 p.m. and last until 5 p.m.
Among the groups in attendance will be Build It Green! NYC, Earth Day NY, Green Shores NYC, National Children’s Study and the Astoria Park Alliance.
“Libraries are all about reuse and sharing resources,” said Lynne Serpe, the organizer of the fair. “They are where people of all ages go to learn, so holding a Green Resource Fair at Queens Library makes perfect sense. There’s an enormous amount of green activity happening in western Queens that we wanted to feature so that people know how to get involved and how to live healthier, greener lives.”
