Assaulted Woman Inside His Vehicle
A 41-year-old Flushing man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a 2009 sexual attack on a 19-year-old girl after he lured her into his vehicle with an offer to drive her to work.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown identified the defendant as John Dixon, 41, of Parsons Boulevard in Flushing. He was convicted in April 2011 of first-degree rape, second-degree assault and first-degree sexual abuse before Queens Supreme Court Justice James P. Griffin, who imposed last Friday, Jan. 20, the determinate sentence of 20 years in prison.
“[Dixon] sexually assaulted and raped this young woman who was on her way to work leaving her emotionally and physically battered,” Brown said in a statement last Friday. “He is a violent predator and the sentence imposed today is more than warranted and protects the women of Queens County from such a vicious individual.”
According to the trial testimony, Dixon was driving a red SUV at approximately 5:30 a.m., on Nov. 28, 2009, when he approached the victim- a 19-year-old female waiting at a bus stop-and offered her a ride. The victim, who was on her way to work, initially refused the offer but Dixon persisted and she ultimately agreed.
After she entered his vehicle, Dixon drove a short distance and stopped in front of a Parsons Boulevard location, where he choked and hit her and then sexually assaulted her before forcibly raping her.
Following the attack, Dixon released her from the vehicle and drove off, but not before the victim wrote down his license plate number and walked to the nearest police precinct.
Assistant District Attorney Jared R. Rosenblatt of the District Attorney’s Special Victims Bureau prosecuted the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys Marjory D. Fisher, bureau chief, and Kenneth M. Appelbaum and Lucinda C. Suarez, deputy bureau chiefs, and the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Charles A. Testagrossa and Deputy Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Daniel A. Saunders.
