A police report from Florida shows striking similarities between a crime committed there and an incident earlier this month in which a man is accused of killing his brother in front of the victim’s South Jamaica family.
Gideon Forde, 33, of Brooklyn, was charged with murder in connection with a Feb. 1 confrontation, during which police said he stabbed his sibling, Clinton Forde, in the victim’s home on 148th St.
Gideon Forde broke down a door and entered the house at about 7:15 a.m. and grabbed a kitchen knife, according to Joann Forde, the fiancée of Clinton Forde.
Gideon Forde then attempted to cut his nephew and succeeded in cutting the neck of his 1-year-old niece before getting into a struggle with his brother, who was trying to protect his children, Joann Forde said, and ultimately fatally stabbing him in the torso, according to police.
But it was not the first time Gideon Forde was arrested on charges involving a kitchen knife and home invasion, according to a report from the Lauderhill Police Department.
Gideon Forde was arrested May 6, 2001, in Lauderhill, Fla., and charged with burglary, aggravated assault and resisting arrest, the report said.
At about 3 a.m., a woman who has two children with Forde told cops she was home watching television when she heard noises coming from her living room, the Lauderhill Police Department said.
She walked into the living room to investigate and found Gideon Forde standing there, holding a kitchen knife, according to the Lauderhill Police Department.
When the woman asked Forde why he was there, he gave a reply that indicated he wanted sex, the Lauderhill Police Department said.
The woman refused and told Forde they were no longer in a relationship.
An argument ensued and Forde said, while still brandishing the knife, “You’re gonna need the police tonight. I am gonna kill you,” the Lauderhill Police Department said.
The woman dialed 911 but did not speak to anyone on the other end of the line — instead, she left the receiver off the hook in hopes a dispatcher would hear as she slowly backed toward the front door, then unlocked it and ran, according to the Lauderhill Police Department.
After canvassing the area, police later saw Forde come out of a nearby store.
When an officer asked Forde his name, he said it was Michael Marks, according to the Lauderhill Police Department.
While the officers were waiting to confirm his identity, Forde attempted to run away across the parking lot, the Lauderhill Police Department said.
After warning Forde several times, an officer from the department deployed her canine partner, which quickly ran down Forde, according to the Lauderhill Police Department.
He was arrested and appeared to be heavily intoxicated, the Lauderhill Police Department said.
In the February incident, Joann Forde said Gideon Forde might have been on drugs.
Gideon Forde had been known to use drugs in the past, she said, and on the morning of the alleged murder, Joann Forde’s 9-year-old son said Gideon Forde was licking a MetroCard that might have had drug residue on it.
